The conflict between National Post technology reporter David George-Cosh and April Dunford, an experienced marketing professional got famous among twitters.

David become furious after hi call April and she doesn’t return his call shortly.

April twitted about that obtaining any names “Reporter to me “When the media calls you, you jump, OK!?” Why, when you called me and I’m not selling? Newspapers will get what they deserve” .

And the battle begun:

sirdavid: @aprildunford what the fuck. I called you for comment two days ago. What did you expect when you called me back? Don’t post that shit online

sirdavid: @aprildunford furthermore, I called you several times in the afternoon. Don’t be condescending to me when I actually wanted to talk to you

aprildunford: @sirdavid Dude – I never said who you were. Twitter meet David. David is having a bad day. David, meet Twitter.

Meet Magpie. The concept is very clear. Once every 10 your twits service insert ad tweet (they call it magpie-tweet). The text match your topic, that’s clever! You’ll be paid for that magpie-tweets. The service looks very reasonable and if you tweet a lot, I’d recommend to try it out.

Seems that very soon anything in this world will be monetized. Just imagine, 20 years later….. You can earn money by implanting BrainAd – small chip that delivers ad text right into your brain. Every 10 minutes you speak to your friends you tell small ad and get points that you will be paid for.

Do you recall Futurama, where Fry saw advertising in his dreams?

As many of you I heard about Basecamp from Signal vs. Noises. I saw quotes from this blog on many blogs over the Internet. And many complimentary words to 37signals too. Strange enough that their product is useless. Basecamp is project management tool but I was shocked when didn’t find there Gantt charts. What can be more convenient to draw project as Gantt chart? It’s de-facto in project management tools.

Sometime ago I worked as Project Manager. I used MS Project. Yes, it’s not the best tool for software and web-project management tool. But it works ok (it was prior the era of all those web2.0 apps)

I want to control project, I don’t want to think what color scheme I like and all this bells and whistles. That’s the main reason why Basecamp sucks.

The second is the biggest one. YOU CAN’T EXPORT DATA FROM BASECAMP. It’s the killer. I don’t know who’ll trust all projects to one SMALL company? It’s the silliest thing you can do being in business.

1. Your business now depends on this company. Let’s pray that this company will be stable.

2. Your business now depends on basecamp server reliability. Let’s pray that it won’t get down for ever.

3. Your data security in hands of 37signals. Let’s be honest, probability of hacking any well-known web software is more than in-house. You’ll never know that your data were stolen.

4. You can’t use any project data in other application. There is no any damn Outlook synchronization even.

Recently I found web-site WhyBaseCampSucks . There are a lot of reasons and arguments.

There is one thing that I like in BaseCamp though. It’s a loyalty of users. I’d like to have such web-site like WhyBaseCampSucks about my products. Why? Because if there is someone that really really hate your product. There is always someone who love it. Love with possession. If you take a look at BaseCamp community you’ll see that it looks like sect. And Jason Fried its leader.

Only mediocre and bad products have no haters. Haters and followers are always going along.

Money always there. Want to earn money, build something that people hates. It happened to Microsoft, Google and Dell.

Now playing: Clannad – Neansai Mhile Gra

The well-known Google monster spreads his tentacles in almost all areas. A lot of marketers use Google Adwords and that’s really effective. For lots of companies, especially for small ones it’s the major or even the one marketing channel.

I was terrified by though that we depend on Google too much. It’s like Microsoft in the era of PC.

We use Google Adwords for advertising as many other software companies around the world. And on this weekend happened very weird thing. All our ads were stopped. We couldn’t find any reason. Ads were stopped on Saturday. It’s Tuesday now and it still doesn’t work.

Here is the screenshot of our ad campaigns overview before bug occurred. I’ve hided all figures and ad names. It’s a secret <img src="http://www.crazyprogrammers.com/post_images/smile2.gif" / / / / / />

<img height="327" alt="This how google adwords account looked before bug happend" hspace="0" src="http://www.crazyprogrammers.com/post_images/before_bug.jpg" width="549" border="0" / / / / / />

And here is another screenshot when bug occurred. Zeroes. Far and wide.

<img height="327" alt="This is how adwords account looks after bug happend" hspace="0" src="http://www.crazyprogrammers.com/post_images/after_bug.jpg" width="549" border="0" / / / / / />

When we look in to the billing info we see that payment was accepted.

<img height="107" alt="Billing info" src="http://www.crazyprogrammers.com/post_images/billing_info.jpg" width="533" border="0" / / / / / />

Support told us that problem that the payment hasn’t been processed. But we know that it has been. After mentioning that fact support told that there is a problem. And this problem is not resolved yet.

I used to trust to such big companies like Google, especially if you pay them for something. But this issue showed me a lot. 4 days of failure. Nobody contacted us yet besides that fact that we were assured that someone will contact us shortly. Great service!

We noticed that our ad stopped by a lucky accident. What might happen if we looked into account a month later as we do usually?

This issue making a loss to us but this is not the big think. How can we trust Google services any more?

Thats great, Gmail now allows to send attacments up to 20 Mb.
Wow! Now I can send my favourites video clips to my friends.

Damn pitty that they can’t. That’s why I don’t like gmail, it cuts almost any attachments. What the reason?
